Geological Overview
These specimens are premier examples of cyclic twinning in the Orthorhombic crystal system. Formed within the Triassic gypsiferous claystone of Morocco, these clusters of Aragonite (Calcium Carbonate, Ca2CO3) precipitate from iron-rich mineral fluids. This process results in their characteristic burnt-sienna and honey-amber saturation.
The "Sputnik" formation occurs when three individual crystals grow outward from a common center at 120° angles, creating a complex radial symmetry that is a marvel of geometric mineralogy.
Aesthetic Appeal
Each cluster in this hand-selected collection exhibits distinct pseudo-hexagonal terminations. The crystals range from translucent amber tips to a matte, earthy russet core. Their geometric "spikes" catch light from every angle, making them highly architectural pieces for any display.
- Specimen H (140g): A powerhouse piece with dense, robust crystal growth and massive form.
- Specimens F & K: Large-scale examples featuring prominent, elongated "stars."
- Specimen D: Compact but features particularly sharp, crisp terminations and high lustre.
Metaphysical Properties
Aragonite is the premier stone for Earth grounding and stabilization. Its radial structure is believed to evenly distribute energy, making it an ideal companion for high-stress environments. Known as a "Conservationist's Stone," it is used to encourage discipline, patience, and a deeper connection to the physical plane.
Rarity & Collectibility
While Aragonite is found globally, high-integrity "Sputnik" formations of this size—especially those exceeding 100g—are increasingly difficult to source. These all-natural specimens from the Atlas Mountains are designated A to AAA Grade based on their geometric precision and termination integrity.
Collector’s & Display Notes
- Condition: All-natural; no repairs or stabilization. Minor edge wear is consistent with extraction from natural claystone.
- Care: These pieces are labeled Fragile. Avoid water or harsh chemicals. Use light compressed air or a soft brush for dusting.
- Display: Best appreciated under focused LED lighting to reveal internal amber translucency.
