Collection: Mookaite Jasper: The Stone of the "Glass Rain"
Welcome to the ancient seabed of Western Australia. While the world knows it as Mookaite Jasper, the geological reality of this stone is far more profound. Scientifically known as Windalia Radiolarite, this mineral is a fossilized record of the Cretaceous period—a time when an inland sea covered the Australian outback over 100 million years ago.
The Geology: A 100-Million-Year-Old Fossil
Mookaite is not a standard quartz; it is composed of the microscopic silica skeletons of Radiolaria (ancient single-celled organisms). As the inland sea evaporated, these skeletons fell to the ocean floor in a geological event known as "The Glass Rain." Over eons, mineral-rich groundwater infused this sediment with iron and manganese, creating the vibrant porcelain-like purples, reds, and mustard yellows that define the Kennedy Ranges today.
Understanding Our Grading System
At Legacy Crystals, we separate our Mookaite specimens into distinct grades to help you find the perfect connection to the stone:
- Museum Grade (Giant Specimens): Rare, massive architectural pieces (10kg+) that defied the odds of the lapidary wheel. These are investment-grade statement pieces.
- Premium Collector Series (Porcelain Finish): Hand-selected spheres chosen for their flawless surface, high-gloss polish, and lack of pitting. These represent the "gem" quality of Radiolarite.
- Natural Earth Series (High Tactile): For the collector who values raw authenticity. These pieces retain natural vugs (caves), quartz windows, and matte sedimentary textures, allowing you to touch the geological history of the stone.
Metaphysical Properties
Ageless Spirit • Gut Instinct • Grounding
Mookaite is often called the "Mother Earth" stone of Australia. It resonates with the Root and Solar Plexus chakras, encouraging a spirit of adventure and flexibility. It is believed to help slow the aging of the spirit, keeping one curious, resilient, and connected to the rhythms of the natural world.
