Geological Overview
Unakite is an altered granite composed of three primary minerals: pink orthoclase feldspar (KAlSi3O8), green epidote (Ca2(Al,Fe)3(SiO4)3(OH)), and generally colourless quartz (SiO2). It is a metamorphic rock that forms when granite is subjected to hydrothermal activity, causing the plagioclase minerals to alter into epidote. This unique geological process results in the stone's signature mottled, earthy appearance, blending robust pinks with mossy greens.
Aesthetic Appeal
This offering features natural Unakite shaped into faceted 8mm (0.31 in) spherical beads. The faceted cut introduces a sophisticated texture to the stone, allowing the geometric surfaces to catch the light and highlight the striking natural contrast between the opaque pink feldspar and the crystalline green epidote. The resulting aesthetic is both earthy and refined.
Metaphysical Properties
In metaphysical practices, Unakite is deeply associated with the Heart Chakra. It is traditionally utilized as a stone of vision and emotional balance, believed to foster a harmonious integration of the physical and spiritual selves. It is often sought after for grounding energy and promoting emotional resilience.
Rarity & Collectibility
While Unakite is geologically abundant and highly accessible, the faceted bead format offers a premium aesthetic upgrade to a classic collector's stone. It serves as an elegant, wearable format of a geologically fascinating altered rock, classifying it as a highly attractive decorative-grade accessory.
Collector’s & Display Notes
Because Unakite is a composite rock, its hardness varies slightly between 6 and 7 on the Mohs scale depending on the exact ratio of quartz to feldspar and epidote in a given area. It is durable enough for daily wear; however, the sharp edges of faceted cuts can be susceptible to micro-chipping upon heavy impact. To preserve the surface polish and the integrity of the elastic stretch cord, avoid exposing the bracelet to harsh cleaning chemicals, excessive moisture, or sudden physical shocks.
Condition & Authenticity
These are all-natural, polished and faceted Unakite beads. Minor surface variations along the facet edges are normal and consistent with the granular structure of the underlying rock.
