Color & Transparency Range
Amazonite ranges from icy blue-green to pale seafoam, sometimes with soft white veining or mica shimmer. It is typically opaque, with occasional semi-translucent edges that emphasize its feldspar sheen.
Overview
Amazonite is a green variety of microcline feldspar (KAlSi₃O₈), a mineral within the feldspar group known for its distinct crystal structure and vibrant coloration. The color is caused by trace amounts of lead and water within the lattice, which alter light absorption.
It forms in granitic pegmatites — slow-cooling igneous veins rich in feldspar, quartz, and mica — where ideal pressure and temperature allow for large crystal growth. Over time, tectonic activity and weathering free the crystals, allowing them to be naturally rounded and later polished into the smooth finish seen here.
Composition: KAlSi₃O₈ (Potassium Feldspar, Microcline Variety)
Formation: Crystallized in Granitic Pegmatites under Moderate Cooling Conditions
Structure: Triclinic Feldspar with Fine Cleavage Planes
