The result is a striking silhouette often referred to by collectors as a "Pac-Man" amethyst: a perfectly polished exterior sphere that opens to reveal a glistening mouth of deep purple crystals.

Geological Overview

Formed approximately 130 million years ago within the Paraná Basalt basin, these specimens began as gas vesicles trapped in cooling volcanic lava. Over millennia, silica-rich hydrothermal fluids permeated these cavities, slowly precipitating as macro-crystalline quartz. The intense, deep purple coloration is specific to the Artigas region, resulting from natural irradiation and trace amounts of iron (Fe³⁺) integrated into the crystal lattice.
