Geological Overview

Baltic Amber is not a stone, but the fossilized resin of ancient coniferous trees (primarily Pinus succinifera) that thrived 40 to 50 million years ago. Sourced from the Baltic Sea region, this organic gemstone is chemically composed of a complex mixture of resins, succinic acid, and volatile oils. These 9.5mm freeform beads exhibit a diverse range of natural oxidation states—from the opaque, fatty-acid rich Butterscotch Amber to the clear, iron-influenced Cognac Amber. As an amorphous solid with no crystal system, it is exceptionally lightweight and warm to the touch.

Aesthetic Appeal

This "Multi-Colour" strand captures the full spectrum of the Baltic forest. The irregular, freeform tumble of the beads provides an organic, artisanal feel that contrasts beautifully with the high-polish finish. When held to the light, the honey-toned beads reveal internal "sun spangles" and tiny botanical inclusions, while the opaque egg-yolk beads offer a solid, creamy luster. The 9.5mm size provides a bold visual presence while remaining feather-light on the wrist.

Metaphysical Properties

Amber is historically revered as a "Solar Stone," believed to carry the energy of the sun and the life-force of ancient trees. It is used in metaphysical practice for Sacral and Solar Plexus Chakra work, encouraging vitality, luck, and emotional cleansing. Because of its succinic acid content, it is often associated with physical comfort and the "drawing out" of negative energy from the body, replacing it with a radiant, positive glow.

Rarity & Collectibility

Genuine Baltic Amber is a finite resource, with quality "Butterscotch" varieties becoming increasingly scarce. These beads are graded AA (Premium Collector Grade) because they show distinct, natural colour variations without the use of high-pressure steam treatments (autoclaving) often used to darken lower-quality resin. The freeform cut is particularly collectible as it honours the original shape of the resin "tears" found along the Baltic coast.

Collector’s & Display Notes

Amber is a soft organic material (Mohs 2.0 to 2.5) and can be damaged by perfumes, hairsprays, or alcohol-based cleaners. Clean only with a soft, dry cloth or lukewarm water. To verify authenticity, amber will float in highly saturated saltwater and emit a faint, pleasant pine scent when gently rubbed to generate friction heat.
