Product Description
This large and commanding specimen features a matrix of radiant, high-clarity quartz crystals peppered with dozens of oxidized black pyrite cubes—some deeply embedded, others rising with strong geometric exposure. At nearly half a kilogram, this is the largest piece in the flat, offering depth, contrast, and natural drama from every viewing angle.
With a wide spread of prismatic quartz radiating from a ridged matrix and several focal pyrite cubes positioned with strong visual symmetry, this piece stands out as a display-grade centerpiece. Every rotation reveals new interplays of metallic matte black surfaces and translucent quartz prisms.
Geological Background
This specimen was mined from the Fengjiashan Mine, a globally recognized skarn-type polymetallic deposit located in Daye County, Hubei Province. The crystals formed as hydrothermal fluids rich in iron and sulfur permeated limestone, leaving behind pyrite in ideal cubic growth. The quartz formed in open vugs, growing upward and outward in response to the shifting geologic cavity.
What makes this piece extraordinary is the number of pyrite cubes—each showing the effects of natural oxidation, likely from surface exposure or late-stage fluid influence. The result is a velvety black surface with hints of hematite and limonite tones, adding richness and visual texture.
Aesthetic Appeal
The focal pyrite cubes are generously sized, crisp-edged, and deeply embedded within a sea of clear, undamaged quartz points. Some of the pyrite shows minor surface cracking and oxide bloom—adding contrast and telling the story of a mineral’s life underground. The balance of dark and light is bold yet harmonious.
From every viewing angle, the piece presents:
- Excellent 3D symmetry
- High sparkle from the quartz
- Complex cubic repetition in pyrite
- Mineralogical integrity, with no visible repairs
Metaphysical Properties
In the metaphysical realm, black pyrite is prized for its grounding energy and strength in shadow work. It is seen as a powerful tool for energetic protection and transmutation. Combined with quartz—known as the master amplifier—this piece is said to radiate clarity, purification, and energetic defense. Ideal for placement in large sacred spaces, protection grids, or as a visual talisman for transformation.
