Sleek, graphic, and fiercely grounding. These Black Sphalerite hearts are distinguished by their striking bands of cream, grey, and metallic charcoal. Often referred to as "Schalenblende" when featuring this layered growth, these stones are a natural mix of Sphalerite, Wurtzite, and Galena.
At approximately 110g, these hearts feel dense and substantial. They take a high polish, making the intricate "stormy" patterns pop against the dark matrix.
This listing is for one Intuitively Selected heart. Your piece will be chosen from our curated stock to match the quality and aesthetic of the specimens shown.
Geological Overview
Sphalerite is a zinc sulfide mineral ((Zn, Fe)S). These specific specimens display a "botryoidal" growth structure that has been sliced and polished to reveal the internal concentric bands. The cream/white layers are often Dolomite or Barite, while the metallic grey bands are Galena (Lead Sulfide), giving the stone its impressive weight.
Metaphysical Properties
Shielding and Grounding.
This dark variety of Sphalerite is a supreme Root Chakra stone. It is used to "seal" the aura, protecting against energetic drains and negativity. The presence of Galena adds a vibration of transformation and deep, earthly connection.
Collector's & Display Notes
Because of the varying hardness between the bands (Sphalerite is 3.5, Galena is 2.5), you may feel slight texture changes across the polished surface. This is a sign of authenticity.
