Geological Overview
Black Tourmaline, scientifically known as Schorl, is a complex sodium iron aluminum boro-silicate represented by the chemical formula NaFe2+3Al6(BO3)3Si6O18(OH)4. It crystallizes in the trigonal system and is the most abundant variety in the tourmaline group, typically forming as highly striated prismatic crystals in igneous pegmatites and metamorphic environments. Its deep, opaque black colouration is heavily driven by its high iron content.
Aesthetic Appeal
This offering features opaque Black Tourmaline shaped into faceted spherical beads, available in 3mm (0.12 in), 8mm (0.31 in), and 10mm (0.39 in) sizes. The faceted cut significantly elevates the aesthetic, allowing the geometric surfaces to catch and reflect light, creating a sophisticated sparkle that contrasts beautifully against the deep, void-like black of the stone.
Metaphysical Properties
In metaphysical practices, Black Tourmaline is considered the premier talisman for grounding and protection. Deeply anchored to the Root Chakra, it is traditionally utilized to absorb and repel negative environmental energies, promoting a sense of physical and emotional security.
Rarity & Collectibility
While Schorl is geologically abundant, solid material suitable for fine faceting without fracturing requires careful selection. These bracelets offer an elegant, wearable format of a classic collector's mineral, classifying them as premium decorative-grade accessories suitable for stacking or wearing individually.
Collector’s & Display Notes
Black Tourmaline rates a 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it relatively durable. However, because it is inherently brittle, the sharp edges of faceted cuts can be susceptible to micro-chipping upon heavy impact. To preserve the faceted polish and the integrity of the elastic stretch cord, avoid exposing the bracelet to harsh chemicals, excessive moisture, or sudden physical shocks.
Condition & Authenticity
These are all-natural, polished and faceted Black Tourmaline (Schorl) beads. Minor surface variations or microscopic abrasions along the facet edges are normal and consistent with the natural brittleness and cleavage of the mineral.
