Color & Optical Character

Blue Tiger Eye exhibits shimmering waves of navy, steel blue, and grey-black with golden or bronze highlights. When moved under light, fine fibrous structures reflect a silken chatoyant band — the classic “eye” effect that defines this gemstone.

Overview

Blue Tiger Eye is a variety of quartz (SiO₂) that forms when fibrous crocidolite (a type of asbestos) becomes pseudomorphically replaced by silica while retaining its fibrous structure. The remaining iron and amphibole inclusions create the luminous, layered shimmer.

The process begins in hydrothermal environments within metamorphic host rocks, where silica-rich fluids infiltrate crocidolite veins. Over time, the silica hardens and preserves the fibrous pattern, producing the silky optical effect known as chatoyancy.

Composition: SiO₂ (Silicon Dioxide) with Crocidolite Inclusions
Formation: Silicification of Amphibole Fibers in Metamorphic Rocks
Structure: Fibrous Quartz with Chatoyant Reflective Bands

Metaphysical Notes

Blue Tiger Eye is associated with calm focus, inner vision, and protection. It’s said to enhance clarity under pressure and strengthen emotional balance, often called the “stone of insight and perspective.”
