Geological Overview
Moonstone is a variety of orthoclase feldspar (potassium aluminum silicate, KAlSi3O8) known for its adularescence, an optical phenomenon that creates a billowy, moonlight-like glow beneath the surface of the stone. This optical effect is caused by light diffracting through alternating microscopic layers of orthoclase and albite within the crystal structure. These pieces originate from Sri Lanka, a region historically renowned for producing exceptional moonstone with its distinct blue flash.
