The Stone of Transition & Serenity

While Lepidolite is a relatively common mineral, specimens of this caliber are difficult to source. We have selected these spheres specifically for their exceptional saturation—a deep, royal plum color indicative of high lithium content—and their brilliant, metallic chatoyancy.

Far from a flat color, these pieces come alive under light. The structure of the mica crystals creates a dazzling "flash" of silver and white against the dark purple base. Each sphere is a study in contrast: dark, soothing tones illuminated by brilliant internal reflections.

Geological Overview

Lepidolite is a lithium-rich phyllosilicate mineral belonging to the mica group. It forms almost exclusively in granite pegmatites, often alongside Tourmaline and Kunzite. Its distinct purple color is derived from trace amounts of manganese. Because mica forms in thin, stacked sheets (like pages in a book), cutting and polishing it into a smooth sphere is a lapidary challenge. The resulting "flash" on the surface is the light reflecting off these tightly compacted crystal layers.

Aesthetic Appeal

  • Color Saturation: Unlike common pale lilac or greyish Lepidolite, these specimens possess a rich, deep eggplant to violet hue.
  • The Flash (Chatoyancy): When rotated under direct light, metallic silvery streaks appear across the surface. This is natural light reflecting off the internal cleavage planes of the mica.
  • Polish & Texture: These spheres have been polished to a high gloss, smoothing the naturally flaky nature of mica into a consistent, tactile form while retaining visual depth.

Metaphysical Properties

  • Energetic Association: Known as one of the most effective calming stones in the mineral kingdom, Lepidolite is closely associated with the Third Eye and Crown Chakras.
  • Symbolism: Often called the "Stone of Transition," it is believed to assist in releasing old behavioral patterns and inducing deep emotional relaxation. The presence of natural lithium is often tied to its reputation for balancing energy and reducing stress.

Collector’s & Display Notes

Lepidolite is a soft mineral (Mohs hardness 2.5–3). These are strictly display specimens intended for stands; they should not be carried in pockets or tumbled with harder stones. For the best visual impact, display them in an area with bright, indirect lighting to activate the metallic mica flash.

Condition & Authenticity

  • Transparency Note: Because Lepidolite is a layered mica, it is normal for polished spheres to show minute surface textures, tiny "steps," or hairline features where the mica layers meet the curve of the sphere. These are not cracks or damage; they are characteristic evidence of the stone’s natural sheet-like structure.
  • Treatment: 100% Natural mineral; cut and polished only. No dyes or stabilization.

Choose Your Exact Specimen

The photos show the exact items available. Please select your preferred piece from the dropdown menu.

Resource: Sphere A (The Substantial Piece)

The largest and heaviest of the collection, this sphere has a commanding presence. It features a deep, consistent plum color with linear, vertical banding of silver flash that shows the direction of crystal growth.

  • Diameter: 56mm (approx. 2.2 inches)
  • Weight: 250g

Resource: Sphere B (The High-Flash "Hero")

This specimen exhibits the most dramatic contrast and the highest metallic brilliance. Against a very dark purple base, it features a broad, intense "window" of silver mica flash that gleams like metal when hit by light.

  • Diameter: Approx. 56mm
  • Weight: Approx. 250g (Similar to A)

Resource: Sphere C (The "Vortex")

A dynamic piece defined by a fascinating circular formation in the structure. The silver flash creates a distinct "swirl" or vortex pattern against the deep violet background, drawing the eye inward.

  • Diameter: 48mm (approx. 1.9 inches)
  • Weight: 165g

Resource: Sphere D (The Silver Cap)

Though the smallest in diameter, this sphere packs a visual punch. It features a broad, concentrated "cap" of bright silver chatoyancy that covers a large portion of the top face.

  • Diameter: 45mm (approx. 1.8 inches)
  • Weight: 135g

Resource: Sphere E (The Classic Example)

A beautifully balanced sphere showing excellent color saturation and consistent, rhythmic flashes of mica across the surface. A textbook example of high-grade purple Lepidolite.

  • Diameter: 49mm (approx. 1.95 inches)
  • Weight: 175g
