Quick Highlights
- Size: 30–32 mm (1.18–1.26 in)
- Origin: Primarily Western Australia; also found in South Africa
- Key Features: Deep forest-green base with bold crimson patterns; high-gloss polish; dense “heft.”
Introduction
Packed with contrast and character, these Dragon Blood Stone mini spheres display flowing swathes of dark green broken by striking red ribbons. The mirror polish and compact size make them ideal accents for bowls, grids, and everyday carry.
Geological Details
Sold in the trade as “Dragon Blood Jasper,” this material is a metamorphosed quartz-rich rock composed mainly of microcrystalline quartz (SiO₂) with green epidote/actinolite and red piemontite/hematite giving the signature colors. Quartz belongs to the silicate mineral class and the trigonal crystal system; here it occurs as a fine aggregate, producing excellent durability and polish.
The dramatic red-on-green patterning forms as iron-bearing minerals recrystallize under heat and pressure, creating natural “brushstrokes” that vary from piece to piece.
Aesthetic Appeal
Expect rich claret patches floating over mossy green, with occasional smoky veils that add depth. Under warm light the red tones glow against the dark base, while the sphere’s curvature showcases the pattern from every angle.
Metaphysical Properties
Often chosen for grounding with drive, Dragon Blood Stone is associated with vitality, courage, and steady motivation—balancing heart and root energies while encouraging momentum on goals.
Rarity
True, dense material with vivid crimson contrast and a clean polish is sought after in smaller spheres, where the pattern reads clearly without pits or drag lines.
Why You Will Love This
Bold color, compact presence, and a luxurious feel in hand—each sphere is a pocket-sized statement piece that pairs beautifully with black, clear, or white stones in any display.
