Color & Transparency Range
Emerald tumbled stones range from dark green to grey-green, often intergrown with black schist, quartz, or feldspar matrix. Semi-opaque to translucent zones may reveal the stone’s internal crystal structure under light.
Overview
Emerald is the green gem variety of beryl (Be₃Al₂Si₆O₁₈), colored primarily by trace amounts of chromium and vanadium. These stones form in metamorphic environments where beryllium-rich fluids interact with chromium-bearing rocks under high temperature and pressure.
During crystallization, emerald often grows within schist, mica, or quartz matrix, producing the unique veining and dark host contrasts visible in these tumbled specimens. Their composition and texture preserve the conditions of deep crustal mineralization.
Composition: Be₃Al₂Si₆O₁₈ (Beryl group, chromium- and vanadium-colored)
Formation: Metamorphic Contact Zone between Beryllium and Chromium-Rich Rocks
