Larimar is an exceedingly rare, blue variety of the silicate mineral Pectolite. What makes Larimar so highly prized is its locality: it is found in only one place in the entire world—a mountainous, relatively inaccessible region in the Dominican Republic. Its stunning blue coloration, which ranges from pale sky blue to deep volcanic teal, is the result of copper substituting for calcium within the mineral's formation process during volcanic activity.
