Geological Overview
Larvikite is a striking igneous rock, specifically classified as a variety of monzonite. It formed deep within the earth's crust roughly 300 million years ago. The stone is famous for its large, interlocking crystals of ternary feldspar, a complex feldspar containing significant amounts of potassium, sodium, and calcium. As these feldspar crystals cooled, they separated into alternating microscopic layers. When light enters the stone and strikes these layers, it produces a brilliant, metallic silver-blue optical flash known as the schiller effect.
Aesthetic Appeal
This offering features natural Larvikite shaped into faceted 8mm (0.31 in) spherical beads. The faceted cut introduces a highly refined geometric texture to the dense, dark grey-to-black stone. This lapidary finish is particularly effective for Larvikite, as the angled facets catch the light from multiple directions, brilliantly maximizing the icy silver and blue metallic flashes intrinsic to the material.
Metaphysical Properties
In metaphysical practices, Larvikite is a powerful dual-action stone, bridging the Root and Third Eye Chakras. It is universally regarded as a stone of inner vision, protection, and profound grounding. It is traditionally utilized to shield the wearer from negative energetic attachments, stimulate intellect, and provide a stabilizing force during deep meditative work or times of complex learning.
Rarity & Collectibility
While massive Larvikite is quarried extensively for architectural use, selecting the specific high-flash zones required for small-scale lapidary work takes precision. The faceted bead format offers a premium, wearable presentation of this unique optical rock, classifying it as a highly attractive decorative-grade accessory.
Collector’s & Display Notes
Larvikite rates between 6 and 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it highly durable for daily wear. However, because feldspar possesses natural cleavage planes, the sharp edges of the faceted cuts can be susceptible to micro-chipping upon heavy impact. To preserve the surface polish and the integrity of the elastic stretch cord, avoid exposing the bracelet to harsh cleaning chemicals, excessive moisture, or sudden physical shocks.
Condition & Authenticity
These are all-natural, polished and faceted Larvikite beads. Minor surface variations or slight textural differences along the facet edges are normal and consistent with the crystalline structure of the underlying igneous rock.
