Geological Overview
Moonstone is a prominent variety of the feldspar-group mineral orthoclase, represented by the chemical formula KAlSi3O8. Its captivating optical properties are the result of its unique formation process. As the mineral cools from molten rock, orthoclase and a related feldspar, albite, separate into alternating microscopic layers. When light enters the stone and strikes these thin, flat layers, it scatters in multiple directions, producing the glowing, billowy light effect known geologically as adularescence.

Moonstone rates between 6 and 6.5 on the Mohs hardness scale and possesses perfect cleavage in two directions. Because of this structural trait, it is somewhat brittle, and the sharp edges of the faceted cuts can be susceptible to micro-chipping upon heavy impact. To preserve the surface polish and the integrity of the elastic stretch cord, avoid exposing the bracelet to harsh cleaning chemicals, excessive moisture, or sudden physical shocks.
Condition & Authenticity
These are all-natural, polished and faceted Moonstone beads. Minor surface variations along the facet edges are normal and consistent with the natural cleavage planes of the feldspar mineral.
