Overview
Fluorite (CaF2) is a calcium fluoride mineral that forms through hydrothermal and sedimentary processes. The vivid coloration in Rainbow Fluorite arises from trace impurities—most notably yttrium, rare earth elements, and varying exposure to natural radiation—creating distinct layers of purple, green, blue, and clear zones.
It typically crystallizes within hydrothermal veins and cavities associated with quartz, calcite, and galena. The alternating color bands reflect shifts in chemical conditions during crystallization, producing the stone’s signature multicolor pattern.
Found in hydrothermal veins and low-temperature deposits within limestone and dolostone formations.
Composition: CaF₂ (Calcium Fluoride)
