Geological Overview

Black Tourmaline, scientifically classified as Schorl, is a complex aluminum borosilicate mineral represented by the chemical formula NaFe3Al6(BO3)3Si6O18(OH)4. It is the most abundant species of the Tourmaline group, forming primarily in igneous and metamorphic rocks like granite pegmatites. Schorl is heavily iron-rich, which gives it its deep, opaque black colour. A fascinating geological trait of all tourmaline is that it is both pyroelectric and piezoelectric, meaning the stone can generate a weak electrical charge when heated or subjected to physical pressure.

Aesthetic Appeal

This offering features natural Black Tourmaline presented in its rugged, unpolished form. The substantial raw chunks (measuring approximately 12mm to 16mm / 0.47 to 0.63 in) are interspersed with smooth 6mm (0.24 in) polished spherical spacer beads. This design provides a striking textural contrast and highlights the stone's authentic, earthy aesthetic. The raw presentation allows the wearer to appreciate the natural vertical striations, varied crystalline faces, and light-absorbing deep black tones of the Schorl.

Metaphysical Properties

In metaphysical practices, Black Tourmaline is deeply associated with the Root Chakra. It is universally regarded as the premier stone of energetic protection and grounding. Practitioners utilize its dense, stabilizing frequency to absorb and deflect negative energy, create an energetic shield around the user, and anchor the physical body securely to the earth.

Rarity & Collectibility

While Schorl is globally abundant, wearable jewelry featuring large, raw, unpolished chunks is highly sought after by those who prefer their minerals in an unaltered state. This high-contrast format offers a highly accessible, tactile presentation of one of the mineral kingdom's most powerful and iconic protective stones.

Collector’s & Display Notes

Tourmaline rates a solid 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. However, because these large chunks are completely raw and unpolished, the natural edges can be brittle and may gently flake or shed minor mineral dust with heavy friction. To preserve the integrity of the raw structure and the elastic stretch cord, strictly avoid exposing the bracelet to water, harsh cleaning chemicals, or sudden physical impacts.

Condition & Authenticity

These are all-natural, completely unpolished Black Tourmaline (Schorl) chunks. Minor flaking, uneven shapes, and natural pitting are inherent to raw minerals and confirm the rock's natural, untreated formation.
