Geological Overview
This substantial 98 mm (3.86 in) sphere is crafted from Yooperlite, a syenite rock rich in fluorescent sodalite (Na8(Al6Si6O24)Cl2). Formed from ancient magmatic activity, the rock consists primarily of coarse-grained feldspar with interspersed sodalite clasts. The sphere has been precision-carved to balance the structural integrity of the syenite matrix with the artistic representation of lunar impact craters.
Aesthetic Appeal
In natural daylight, this sphere presents as a heavily textured, grey-to-black matrix stone. The visual impact relies on the contrast between the highly polished outer sphere and the matte, unpolished interiors of the carved craters. However, its true aesthetic value is revealed under 365nm UV light, where the sodalite inclusions exhibit a striking, molten-orange fluorescence, transforming the carving into a glowing celestial body.
Metaphysical Properties
The spherical shape is traditionally associated with the even distribution of energy, while the lunar carving is connected to cycles and reflection. Yooperlite is frequently used by practitioners as a stone of truth and self-expression, associated with clearing the throat chakra and fostering clarity.
Rarity & Collectibility
Quality Grade: AA (Premium Collector Grade)
While Yooperlite is widely recognized, large-scale continuous carvings of this material are highly desirable. At 98 mm (3.86 in) and weighing approximately 1.15 kg (2.54 lbs), a sphere of this magnitude displaying a strong, dense distribution of fluorescent sodalite is a premium addition to any specialized or interactive UV display.
Collector’s & Display Notes
Weighing 1.15 kg (2.54 lbs), this piece has a high density and requires a heavy-duty acrylic calliper or a metal display stand. Note: This specimen strictly requires a 365nm UV light source to display its vibrant fluorescence; standard blacklights will not produce the same intensity of optical effect.
Condition & Authenticity
Completely natural stone, carved and polished with no repairs, stabilization, or colour enhancements. Minor natural surface variations, microscopic pits, or internal veils are present and consistent with the extraction and carving processes of authentic syenite.
